Zac Barber
A Botanical Deep Dive into the Rheophytic Flora of Sarawak
Zac went to Sarawak in Borneo to explore its extraordinary, diverse aquatic and rheophytic flora growing in the region’s contrasting habitats, from blackwater peat streams to fast-flowing chalk and limestone rivers. In this talk, he’ll discuss the family Araceae, and the specialised adaptations by which these plants thrive. He’ll also address the urgent conservation challenges facing the ecosystems he visited, including the devastating impact of palm-oil driven deforestation, and consider what the horticultural community can do to better protect and represent these extraordinary plants.
