In August 2025, horticulturists Fay Davies (Kew Wakehurst), Sara Barnes (Kew Wakehurst), Anna Lim (Kew Gardens) and Selina Tan (Isabella Plantation) set off on a three-week botanical adventure through South Africa, exploring some of the most extraordinary plant habitats on Earth.  From vast lichen fields and spectacular displays of Aizoaceae to tiny, cryptic Conophytums hidden amongst the quartz, their journey revealed a landscape rich in diversity. As climate change, habitat loss and an escalating poaching crisis place increasing pressure on wild plant populations, another less visible threat looms over many species already on the brink.

Join them for a fascinating account of discovery, conservation and the challenges of safeguarding South Africa's botanical treasures for future generations.
